Chief Risk Officer, UK – London

I’m working on an exclusive search mandate with Convex, a newly formed international specialty insurer and re-insurer founded by Stephen Catlin and Paul Brand.

Due to massive growth, they have been asked by the PRA to appoint a UK CRO to be part of the senior leadership team. You will be responsible for the following three risk pillars: Insurance Risk, ERM and Financial Risk.

The current level of risk doesn’t require a full-time CRO so the new hire will also be responsible for leading the ERM team, which currently has no manager. It is expected that the balance will be 75% CRO and 25% ERM in the initial stages.

The position will report to the UK CEO and Group CRO (Pierre-Francois Rodriguez). You will need PRA approval but they are open to this being someone’s first CRO position.

The team around you will grow organically as the company grows but as they’ve taken on more than 250 people since lockdown started, I think it’s safe to say that there will be lots more growth!

Ideally you’ll have great communication skills, the confidence and ability to challenge the Board re risk exposures and be someone who is comfortable with the Convex culture and vision (which I can honestly say is refreshingly unusual – not often said after 18 years working in insurance!)

Chief Pricing Actuary, Asia – Hong Kong

A global reinsurer is looking for a Chief Pricing Actuary to cover it’s Asian businesses. Covering 12 different jurisdictions with varying degrees of market maturity, the CPA will be leading the development of pricing strategy and providing both global and regional leadership regarding the technical direction of their global pricing strategy, methodology and guidance.

The company is the market leader in the Asian life reinsurance market and has tripled in size in the last decade – they are the fastest growing part of the global entity. This role is currently being performed by the CRO who reports to the regional CEO but as the company grows, it’s been decided to separate out the function.

You’ll initially report to the CRO who will be able to provide support and a full handover.  The role will combine regional leadership of around 100 pricing specialists (c25 in HK) with a strong technical understanding of the key aspects of the pricing process.

You’ll have three senior regional direct reports, all of whom have more than 15+ years of experience so candidates need to have at least 15-20 years of total experience combined with a strong background in insurance/reinsurance and expertise in pricing.

Ideally you’ll have experience working in an international environment – either within European or Asian markets – which will help with understanding the cultural, language and product differences within different markets.

The total comp for this will be $500-600k USD.

Actuary – ALM Front Office

A multi-national life insurer is looking for an experienced capital optimisaton/ALM specialist to support the capital management across all of its entities.

London based. I have more info so please get in touch.

Global Health Actuary (Closed)

A global reinsurer is looking for an experienced Health Actuary to join a growing team that provides specialist technical support across their world-wide health and medical markets.

The role will involve:

  • Reviewing/approving/improving quotations, pricing bases and monitoring experience.
  • Supporting the Chief Actuary.
  • Looking at pricing methodologies/best practices.
  • Working closely with the global health teams to identify market trends and monitor in-force business.
  • Supporting global reinsurance propositions/transactions.

London based but with great homeworking options.

Ideally you’ll be a qualified actuary with previous health experience.

Principal/Senior Consultant – DC & ESG Investment

Here’s a great new role for an experienced DC investment specialist at either Principal or Senior Consultant level which will also involve spearheading the growing ESG/RI offering across the whole investment practice.

Working closely with the Head of DC and the Head of Responsible Investment (‘RI’), you’ll help lead the development of the DC RI proposition and advise clients on all elements of RI.

You’ll be part of the cross department RI team of around 10 investment specialists that sit within the wider investment practice and get the chance to be part of pitches for new clients and lead on existing DC client relationships.
My client has an excellent reputation in this market and as they don’t offer fiduciary management or work with a DC provider, they can offer un-conflicted, independent advice.

You can be based in London (with a good remote option) and the salary is market dependent but offering a very generous bonus and benefits for both Senior Consultants and Principals. Also, you don’t have to be an ESG/RI expert but you must have an interest/desire to become one!
Please get in touch to find out more about this or the market in general (seems to be very busy at the moment……!)
