Chief Risk Officer, UK – London (closed)

I’m working on an exclusive search mandate with an international specialty insurer and re-insurer.

Due to massive growth, they have been asked by the PRA to appoint a UK CRO to be part of the senior leadership team. You will be responsible for the following three risk pillars: Insurance Risk, ERM and Financial Risk.

The current level of risk doesn’t require a full-time CRO so the new hire will also be responsible for leading the ERM team, which currently has no manager. It is expected that the balance will be 75% CRO and 25% ERM in the initial stages.

The position will report to the UK CEO and Group CRO. You will need PRA approval but they are open to this being someone’s first CRO position.

The company is the market leader in the Asian life reinsurance market and has tripled in size in the last decade – they are the fastest growing part of the global entity. This role is currently being performed by the CRO who reports to the regional CEO but as the company grows, it’s been decided to separate out the function.

You’ll initially report to the CRO who will be able to provide support and a full handover.  The role will combine regional leadership of around 100 pricing specialists (c25 in HK) with a strong technical understanding of the key aspects of the pricing process.

You’ll be part of the cross department RI team of around 10 investment specialists that sit within the wider investment practice and get the chance to be part of pitches for new clients and lead on existing DC client relationships.
My client has an excellent reputation in this market and as they don’t offer fiduciary management or work with a DC provider, they can offer un-conflicted, independent advice.

You can be based in London (with a good remote option) and the salary is market dependent but offering a very generous bonus and benefits for both Senior Consultants and Principals. Also, you don’t have to be an ESG/RI expert but you must have an interest/desire to become one!
