Interesting survey from the ONS’s Labour Market Overview showing an increase in the number of hours worked in Q1. Reminds me of a recent conversation with someone working for a PE backed insurer who’s worked every weekend since he started (more than a year ago). He gets paid well but I suggested that pro rata he’s probably not on much at all…… I don’t understand why companies, usually backed by a lot of wealth, just don’t HIRE MORE PEOPLE. You might say – you would say that, wouldn’t you – but how many studies are there showing that productivity isn’t related to hours worked and that the ability to be productive working 14 hours a day is severely impacted…..
